Church (in Ruins)

Marked as a small rectangular structure described in gothic lettering as a church at the N edge of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on the 1837 ed.of the OS 6-inch map. Situated on the S and E-facing slope of an WNW-ESE ridge, and known locally as 'Teamhair Cemetery'. It may have been a chapel of ease to Kiltullagh parish church (RO032-001001-) c. 9km to the SW in Tuam diocese. There is a trapezoidal graveyard (RO026-007002-) (int. dims 32m N-S; 27.6m E-W at N; 12m E-W at S) defined by conserved masonry walls, which were once drystone-built. It contains 20th century headstones and an area with uninscribed grave-markers (dims c. 6m x c. 6m). There is no evidence of a church. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 9 April 2018
