Church in Mountgale

Church

What is recorded here

According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 446), 'a church and a village, both now obliterated, stood here in former times. The site is pointed out in a field broken up with mounds and trenches'. Writing about Mountgale townland, O'Kelly (1969, 9) notes that, 'the Kyle i.e. Cill, a church, is a field here and Faiche na manách, the monks' green, is a field adjoining'. The precise location of this church within the townland is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 7 July 2020
