Church in Killonan (ballysimon Ed)

No surface remains visible of any possible church inside Killeen graveyard. Westropp gave the following details bout Killonan Church 'Killonayn, 1601; (Fiant, 6487); Killownane, D. S. (A) 4; Lonan, son of Erc, of the Ui Fidgeinte, who was at Mullach cae, south of Cam Feredaig, a disciple of St. Patrick, dwelt to the east of Singland, c. 440 (V. T. P., p. 307). O'Donovan, with no cited authority, gives "Cil Adamnain". Site - A killeen, near the railway station of the name' (Westropp 1904-5, 365). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 3 October 2018

The church at Killonan was likely built in the early 17th century, as recorded in the 1601 Fiants, and is associated with the Ui Erc lineage. Its wider significance is not clearly recorded.
