Church in Garryvicleheen

St Bridget's church site and graveyard (TN041-042018-) is situated on the W side of the town of Thurles to the W of the railway line and on the N side of Garryvicleheen road. Situated outside the walled town (TN041-042----) and when visited by the OS in 1840 no trace of any church was visible (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 8). In the S wall of the graveyard there is a large stone pier into which are inserted several architectural fragments and carved stones most of which are of a recent date. One of the fragments consists of an ogee-headed window with hollowed spandrels which formerly belonged to a church building. The other figures consist of a cat, a lion and a human figure. No visible remains of any church in the graveyard. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
