Childrens Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Childrens Burial Ground is a subcircular children's grave field in County Galway, Ireland, split by a field boundary with trees choking its southern edge. It is small enough to walk across in minutes yet old enough to have lost most of its shape under grass and growth. The children who slept there are no longer named, but the ground still holds the fact that they existed and that someone once set them aside with care.
In flat pastureland. This roughly subcircular children's burial ground (16m WNW-ESE) is bisected by a WNW-ESE running field boundary. To the N of the field boundary, apart from one/two grave-markers, no visible surface trace survives. To the S its W limits are defined by another field wall running roughly N-S. This section is overgrown with trees and the SSE sector was impenetrable due to thick overgrowth. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 3 September 2019
