Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Childrens Burial Ground (Disused) lies hidden within a ringfort in County Galway, Ireland. Tradition and an old survey marker identify the lost place, although no surface trace remains for modern eyes. The children may have rested beside the fort wall while adults watched over them, turning a ordinary field into a chamber of love and loss.
Within a ringfort (GA085-072----). Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1933) as a CBG and traditionally known as such. No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
