Childrens Burial Ground

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Childrens Burial Ground stands in County Clare, Ireland, marking a place where young lives ended before their time. The land may have swallowed infants taken by fever, hunger or birth itself, leaving parents no choice but to dig shallow holes beside home fields. Such losses were common enough that grief stopped being spoken and became routine, yet the children still belonged to someone. Forgetting them would have been a second killing, so the ground remembered what tongues would not repeat.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
