Children died young in that coastal air, and the adults had no choice but to stop asking why. They carried the small bodies to the low ground beside Tralee Bay, laid them under the soil, and walked home silent. The fort shape may have marked the place or the memory may have invented the fort, but the children belonged there before anyone argued about the name.

KE036-006----, located on low-lying level ground at the SW side of Tralee Bay, is known locally as a 'fort', and was also reputedly used for the burial of unbaptised infants.
