Laurels Road, Dundalk, 17th-18th century: at least three infant skeletons lay disarticulated in ordinary garden soil, a children's burial ground for the unbaptised. No cross, no chapel, no witness but the shovels of test trenching in 1999. The road has carried carts and children ever since; beneath it, the smallest deaths kept their own quiet company.

Discovered during archaeological test trenching (Excavation Licence No. 99E0737). At N end of Laurels Road, the disarticulated remains of at least three infants were uncovered in garden soil, dating to the 17th-18th century. Known locally as burial ground for unbaptised children.
