What is recorded here
Inishlee Island in Lough Conn, County Mayo, holds a vanished children's burial ground recorded by Aldridge in 1969. The site resists human memory and modern measurement because no trace emerged during a 1996 inspection. The lake may have swallowed the marker stones while preserving the sacred function of the ground.
On Inishlee island in Lough Conn.
Aldridge (1969, 86) includes a burial ground (MA039-114002-) on Inishlee in his list of children's burial grounds in Knockmore Parish. It is not indicated on the 1838 and 1930 OS 6-inch maps, and no trace was located during an inspection in 1996.
