What is recorded here

Children died young in Derrymaclaughna and adults buried them beside the church wall, marking little bodies with small boulders instead of grand stone. The graveyard measures nine metres long and three metres wide, narrow enough for a child’s life and large enough for generations. Some boulders still stand earthfast while others have fallen, suggesting time has handled the place roughly. Adults may have believed children needed less ceremony but still needed a boundary, a direction and a chance to be remembered.

Immediately outside the S wall of the church (GA070-065002-) just to the E of the doorway. An area (9m E-W; 3m N-S) is marked by small boulders. Three or four are earthfast and face E and are alinged N-S. The other boulders are loose and may be the result of collapse. According to local information, this is a children's burial ground.
