Children's burial ground in Daggan

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Caldragh Field in Daggan, County Cavan, marked a children’s burial ground beside Shane's Fort, predating the graveyard at Cullies. No stones or ditches remain visible, yet the field keeps its name and purpose. It is the kind of place where love and loss happened before records, and the land still remembers what people stopped repeating.
Known as 'The Caldragh Field' (local information). It is believed to be the site of a burial ground predating the graveyard at Cullies, 700m to SE. Situated adjacent to a large enclosure locally known as 'Shane's Fort' (CV020-011----). No visible remains at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
