Children's burial ground in Cove occupies a raised circular pasture in County Cork, Ireland. Sod-covered oratory foundations, a collapsed hut wall, and scattered upright stones still mark the site. The chamber may have stood beside the graves, giving prayer and presence to the children buried there.
In pasture, on gentle NW-facing slope. Roughly circular, slightly raised area (48.5m N-S; 45m E-W) enclosed by earth and stone bank (H 0.65m). Interior features: (1). Just N of centre is circular raised area (18m N-S; 17m E-W) defined by scarp (H 1m). Within this, sod-covered foundations of rectangular structure (7m NE-SW; 5.5m NW-SE; H 0.7m), possible remains of simple oratory (CO148-007003-). Annexe on SW side formed by arc of low earthen bank. (2). Circular hut site (6m N-S; 6m E-W) in NE quadrant; defined by collapsed stone wall (H 0.65m), now grass-covered. Low, uninscribed upright stones in interior may mark burials. (3). Line of six upright stones, long axis N-S, in SE quadrant, may by grave markers. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
