Marianne stopped her car on the ruined road and walked the ridge where children had been buried before men and women stopped coming to the place. She could picture small limestone marks in a line, not grand crosses but humble stones set by people who knew the names of the dead. The land had taken back even those marks, yet the ridge still belonged to the children because Marianne could be still there without fearing she was forgetting them.

On a ridge within the remains of a tree copse. According to local information, there was a CBG consisting of a line of small limestone grave-markers here.
