Children's burial ground in Ballyboggan (graigabbey Ed)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Children’s bones and skulls emerged during house construction in the late 1970s, revealing a burial ground hidden beneath rough pastureland in Ballyboggan. The landowner believed most of the plot was sacred to the dead, yet no grave-markers broke the grass. Sixteen metres away, a man-made underground passage waited in darkness, suggesting the children belonged to a place where living and dead still share one ground.
In rough pastureland. During the course of the construction of a house in the late 1970s, a number children's bones and skulls were uncovered and reburied some 26m to the E of the house. The landowner believed that a burial ground probably occupied most of the plot on which the house stands, although no grave-markers were to be seen anywhere. A Man-made underground passage (GA084-140----) lies c. 16m to the SW. The following image has been uploaded: GA084-139----_01.jpg Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 11 July 2023
