Charles Villiers Stanford

In 1852, Charles Villiers Stanford entered the world in County Dublin, Ireland, the only son of a prominent lawyer and a gifted pianist. His father sang the title role in Mendelssohn's Elijah at its Irish premiere, filling their home with music before Stanford ever touched an instrument. That early immersion shaped a composer who would later teach Holst and Vaughan Williams, carrying Dublin's vocal tradition into the heart of British classical music.
