This brass commemorative plaque records: Charles Dickens Stayed at this hotel on 26th Sept. 1858 and 25th Nov. 1861. On the latter date he gave a reading in the adjoining assembly rooms.
Charles Dickens was a renowned English novelist of the Victorian era, known for his vivid depictions of social issues and memorable characters; he significantly influenced literature with works like "Oliver Twist" and "A Tale of Two Cities."
