What is recorded here

Cave is a man-made underground passage in the southwest quadrant of a County Cork ringfort. Several depressions in that soil suggest collapsed chambers, hinting that people once cut or dug spaces beneath the fort for storage, shelter, or ritual. The forgotten depth still belongs to the living place, waiting for patience and care.

In SW quadrant of ringfort (CO041-01101-). The OS Field Book of 1840 recorded 'in the S. side of it there is an entrance to several subterraneous apartments' (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 334). Several depressions in SW quadrant may indicate position of collapsed chambers. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
