What is recorded here

Cave is a man-made underground passage in the northwest quadrant of a County Cork ringfort. Grove White found loose stones blocking the entrance in the early 1900s, suggesting the chamber collapsed rather than never existing. The opening leads beneath a western hut site, hinting that people once built room below the ground before the weight of centuries crushed it shut.

In NW quadrant of ringfort (CO041-08601-). Grove White (1905-25, vol. 3, 332) recorded 'an entrance to a cave partly filled up with loose stones, but it is very easy to remove them'. Depression and opening, outside NW wall of western hut site and apparently leading under it, probably indicates collapsed chamber(s).
