Castle, unclassified in Rathtoole belongs to County Wicklow, Ireland, where a small fortress may have stood before 1303 for John de Valle. He held half a knight’s fee there, enough to warrant stone walls and a guard rather than a grand palace. Decades later the land still carried shadows of that shape, visible to locals long before scholars named it. The castle vanished, but its absence remains active in the story of the place.

Described by Price (1949, 152) as shown on the ‘Barony Map’ and ‘presumably’ the castle of John de Valle, who held half a knight’s fee in Rathothell in or before 1303. There is also mention that in 1910 Mr. Twamley, of Rathtoole House, informed Lord Walter Fitzgerald that there were the remains of a castle on his farm some years previously.
