Castle, a castle in Rathcardan, is recorded in the Civil Survey of 1654-6 but has no surviving location. It may have stood on a ridge, hidden beneath a field or lost when the townland changed shape. What remains is a gap in the landscape, a castle that exists only through the fact that it was forgotten.
