Castle, unclassified is a circular mound beside the Mountgale road, remembered as the site of Bouncestown Castle and Sir Tobias Butler. It is not a grand ruin but a low ridge of earth that still catches the eye of anyone walking past. The name Bouncestown survives in the old townland, giving the place a sudden musical edge. What the castle did, who built it, and when it fell cannot be known, but the mound remains as a marker of forgotten power.

Holahan (1883, 88), notes that Bouncestown was the ancient name of the townland of Mountgale and referring to Bouncestown Castle writes that, 'A circular mound is here pointed out near the road-side as the site of the castle of Sir Tobias Butler'. This may refer to an enclosure (KK018-022----) immediately to the E of, and adjacent to, the public road which runs roughly N-S through the townland.
