What is recorded here

Gorey Fort and unnamed castle towers still dot the Mill Lands map, preserving a lost cluster of buildings that time has swallowed. The castle resists identification, denying even its own townland name, while the surveyed towers remain fixed in stone and ink. It is a ghost in the archive, present enough to mark but absent enough to hide.
A few towers representing castles are marked on the Down Survey (1654-5) map of Kilmakillogue parish near Gorey. Its location, The Down Survey map of Kilmakillogue parish (1656-8) shows Gorey as a rectangular walled feature with 'Gorey Fort' and some towers representing castles somwhere in the vicinity. This castle remains unlocated and even its townland name, is not known.
