What is recorded here
Castle, unclassified in Leitrim South, County Sligo, Ireland, is the second of two old castles named in the townland in 1836. The first has its own record; this one remains unclassified, stripped of description and date. That vacancy is not a failure, but a shape: a castle reduced to the fact that it stood beside another castle. The land held two defences, two claims, two identities strong enough to be counted but no longer easy to separate.
This record relates to the second of the 'two old castles' referred to in this townland in 1836 (OSNB vol. 1, 33). See SL038-129----.
