Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

No one knows which field in Lecarrow swallowed the castle, but in 1836 its ruin still stood tall enough to mark the townland. The absence is not a failure of knowledge; it is the shape of the place. A castle that cannot be found may have been building its own mystery, using forgetfulness as mortar.
In 1836 it was recorded that 'the ruin of an old castle' stood in Lecarrow townland (OS Name Book, no. 1, 231). There is no record of a castle' in this townland and its precise location is not known. Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 29 March 2010
