Kildonnell Castle vanished before human memory, leaving only a doubtful mark on a 17th-century survey and a confirmed grant to Sir A. Ingram in 1667. The precise stone structure eludes identification, yet the name persists in County Limerick like a ghost refusing to leave the body. What remained may have been a tower, a ruin, or merely a claim written in ink rather than built in mortar.

The precise location of a possible castle in the townland of Kildonnell has not been identified. Westropp (1906-7, 152) recorded the following details about Kildonnell Castle; '1655 C[astle]. shown (D.S.B., 22). 1667 Confirmed to Sir A. Ingram (Act Sett.), a doubtful site'.
