Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Castle is a castle that vanished from every map after the Down Survey marked it on the northwest face of Dunmurry Hill in 1655. It may have been a stone watchtower, a forgotten farmstead or a boundary marker misread by a hurried draughtsman. Guidenstown South keeps the name alive while refusing to show the building, turning a missing castle into a small local mystery.
Recorded on the Down Survey (1655-6) on the NW face of Dunmurry Hill, but not recorded on the subsequent OS mapping. The monument has not been located. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 14 February 2012

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
