What is recorded here
Castle stands unlocated in Corbetstown, named only in the Offaly Survey of 1550. It may have been a tower, a courtyard or a forgotten stronghold, but no entrance, room or boundary has survived to prove which. The castle is still missing, not dead; it is waiting for someone to stop repeating its absence and go find the place where the absence ends.
Unlocated castle within townland that is mentioned in the Offaly Survey of 1550 (Loeber 1988, vol. 2, 71).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
