Coolfin Castle belonged to Ballyboy Church but vanished before any map drew its walls, leaving only three cottages and an old castle buried beneath the name Culfeane. The glebe still lies a short walk south of the village, waiting for someone to stop looking for stones and start listening for the shape of what the church forgot.

Coolfin Glebe is 1.5km south of the church (OF031-044----) and village of Ballyboy. The precise location of Coolfin Castle which was the property of the church has not been identified. No castle is depicted in this townland on any map. The castle which formed part of the ecclesiastical estate of Ballyboy Church (OF031-044----) is mentioned in the Books of Survey and Distribution for County Offaly where underneath the townland name of ‘Culfeane’ [Coolfin Glebe] there is listed ‘Three Cottages an old Castle Impropriate’ (NLI p 3771).
