Castle Field still marks the east side of Cahermee House, preserving the memory of a fortress that vanished before the Down Survey drew its lines. The house may sit upon the castle's bones, turning ancient stone into domestic warmth. Forgetting the fortress does not erase it; it transforms the castle into a home, forcing history to adapt rather than resist.

Castle shown on Down Survey (1655-6) barony map on or near site of present Cahirmee House (14863). According to Grove White (1905-25 vol. 2, 19) field to E of house called 'Castle Field'. Local tradition that house is c. 500 years old suggests it may be built on site of castle. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
