Caherconreafy hid a castle that vanished before human memory could hold it. You can still walk the townland, but the stones refused to be found. What it guarded, who built it, and where it fell remain lost.
A castle in this townland is mentioned in 16th and 17th century sources (Westropp 1906-07, 97) but its exact location is not known.
