What is recorded here
Brittan Castle vanished before it was born, leaving only a name on the Down Survey and an empty field beside Mullaghmast. The exact location is unknown, but the gap itself is the shape of the story: a castle that resisted measurement, or a man who built it so quietly it never entered the world. Either way, Brittan refuses to be found.
Recorded on the Down Survey (1655-6) and named 'Brittan'. Probably located close to the Mullaghmast townland boundary. The exact location of this monument is unknown.
