What is recorded here
Castle stands unclassified in Ballintrane, County Carlow. It appeared on the Down Survey map in 1655-6 but has since vanished from exact knowledge. The loss is not a mistake; it is an invitation to imagine the shape of what disappeared.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007
