Ardinode, straddling the Kildare border in 1486, held a castle, a stone tower and a watermill, though no marker now confirms which bank or field received the castle’s shadow. The names Ardinode East and Ardinode West still divide the same forgotten ground, and the castle may have stood on either side of the water that turned the mill. Its absence does not diminish it; it refuses to be owned by one map or one memory.
