Annagh Castle wore two angle towers and a central block on the Down Survey map, yet no exact spot remains marked in the townland. It passed from Peter Walsh to Conor Mulrian and John Ryan across turbulent decades, while Col. Piers Walsh also claimed it. The castle may have been a small violent house, proud enough to keep orchards and a mill, now withdrawn into the land like a swallowed name.

The precise location of Annagh castle within the townland has not been identified. Annagh Castle described by Westropp (1906-7, 100) as following; '1592 Held by Peter Walsh. See also grants 1552-1592. In 1619 Conor Mulrian held the C[astle]. at his death (Inq. Chan., 36b). 1655 John Ryan held C[astle]. (C.S., xxx., p. 5, and D.S.A., 28). Col. Piers Walsh is stated to have owned it (B.D., p. 113). It is shown in the D.S. as having two turrets'. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that John Ryan of Annagh was the owner in Annagh 'of land with a Castle two Orchards and a mill seate' (Simington 1938, 6) The 17th century Down Survey map of Owneybeg barony (Hib. Reg.) depicted the castle as a central block flanked on either side by an angle tower with a cluster of cabins nearby (LI006-068002-).
