Castle stood as a tower house beside the southern shore of Lough Melvin before its eastern wall became the western boundary of a later church. The stone still carries a narrow lintelled opening for a single light, while the new church walls abut rather than bond with the older structure. That sudden change from defensive home to worship space suggests people stopped fighting the lake and began praying beside it.

Close to the S shore of Lough Melvin. A wall (L 7m N-S; H c. 4.5m) with a base-batter on the E side has a lintelled embrasure (Wth 0.82m; H 0.7m) for a single light on the W side towards the N end at ground level. The quoins are missing but this wall formed the E wall of a castle before it was re-used as the W wall of the church (LE002-015001-) whose N and S walls are not bonded with it.
