Castle stands in Ballybeggan, County Kerry, a tower house built to watch the land and perhaps withstand the kind of raid that made watching necessary. Its stones have outlived the hands that shaped them, keeping a quiet record of the people who climbed, defended, or fled beside it. What is missing from memory has not vanished; it has waited for someone to imagine the shape of the life that lived there.
