Carrigan claimed Sandford’s court consumed a vanished castle, yet the landowner later found massive walls hidden beneath the grass. The castle may have worn several shapes before it disappeared, giving up stone for another building and memory for the field.

Set amid reclaimed rolling grassland. Fair views in all directions. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 274), when describing Sandford’s Court (KK015-020002-) he mentions that the ‘materials used in its erection were those of a demolished castle that stood immediately beside it, and that must have been of some pretensions, if one may judge from the many pieces of cut-stone, such as quoins, window and door casings, &c., taken therefrom and used as ordinary building stones, in the more modern edifice’. According to the landowner, he found massive walls during drainage works in the area marked as ‘Castle (Site of)’ on the 2nd ed. OS 6-inch map. Built in the medieval period, Sandfordscourt Castle's exact construction date and builder are not precisely recorded; however, it is notable for its strategic location on reclaimed grassland, offering panoramic views that would have been advantageous for surveillance and defense.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
