Castle Rodger (in ruins)

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Killure Beg holds no stones, no ditch, no broken wall. It holds only the absence of a castle, recorded once and never seen again. Forgetting completed what decay began.
Situated in gently undulating pastureland. Described in OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 533) as 'an old castle … of whose history nothing is known'. No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
