Castle, motte in Clonymeath stands as a grass-covered oval hillock with a flattened top, marking a defended place on the N-facing slope of a broad hill in County Meath. A ditch cut across a low ridge twenty metres to the SE suggests people shaped the landscape to control entry, perhaps watching the valley or keeping out unwanted visitors. The mound may have held a timber tower, a hall or a watched gate, while ordinary life moved around it in seasons of rain, harvest and alarm.

Located at the bottom of the N-facing slope of a broad hill. This is an oval, grass-covered natural hillock with a flattened top (dims of top 11m N-S; 7m E-W; dims of base c. 55m N-S; c. 40m E-W; H 7m). At a distance of c.20m to the SE a ditch (Wth of top 3m; Wth of base 1.5m; D 0.7m) has been cut across a low ridge SE-SSW (L c. 100m) with an entrance gap at SE.
