Castle

Castle, motte

What is recorded here

Death came in a cart, not a sword. Men dug through the castle wall and carried its stones to market. The castle did not fall in battle. It fell in usefulness, converted to rock for other people's walls.
The Ordnance Survey Letters (1838-40) record that 'the remains of a fine moate may be seen near the house of Ballydonogh in the T.L. of that name; it has been broken in on by a sand or gravel pit' (O'Flanagan 1928, 39). The exact location of this is not known. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 05 February 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
