Castle (in Ruins)

On cliff-edge, overlooking Blackwater River valley to S. All that now stands is section of W wall (L 5.42m; H 4m), with short (L c. 0.4m) return of N wall. Double-splayed lintelled window at S end of W wall. According to Smith (1750, vol. 1, 343), a Fitzgerald castle. Subsequently in possession of Edmund Spenser of Kilcolman and his descendants (Healy 1988, 430). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
