Castle (in ruins)

Situated on a broad plateau and at the NW corner of a farmyard. Described as the 'stump of a castle' and the property of Jeffry Power in 1641 (Simington 1942, 109). Rectangular tower (int. dims. 10.55m NW-SE; 6.2m NE-SW) surviving to the springing of the barrel vault (H c. 6m) over the ground floor. The vault and the NW wall do not survive. A segmental-arched embrasure in the NE wall at ground level has a gun loop, and a similar embrasure in the SE wall may have had two. A destroyed garderobe chute is visible in the NE wall. The loft was supported on corbels in the NE and SW walls and had a window in the SE wall. The motte (WA007-006001-) and enclosure site (WA007-006002-) are c. 150m to the W. Jeffry Power held Feddans Castle in 1641. It is remembered as a surviving, though ruined, example of early modern defensive architecture in the region.
