Farranamanagh Castle was the tower house of the O'Daly bardic clan, set atop a low ridge overlooking Ferranamanagh Lough on the north shore of Dunmanus Bay. Only the much-ruined ground floor survives today, its central opening in the north wall likely the door. The O'Daly were keepers of story and memory, so the ruin may have been less a fortress than a house for shaping the lives of others into songs.

Built by the O'Daly bardic family, Castle (in Ruins), Farranamanagh dates to the late medieval period, likely 15th or 16th century. It is remembered as a symbol of the region's Gaelic heritage and the historical influence of bardic families in southwest Ireland.
