Baronstown castle vanished entirely, leaving only a low rock rise in Tipperary countryside. It belonged to Purcell, baron of Loaghma, whose name shaped the place before stone, chamber or boundary could be remembered. What is gone becomes a test of imagination: a kitchen fire, a guard’s shadow, a child running across broken flagstones. The land keeps the shape of the claim even when the claim no longer has a visible body.

Situated on a low rise of natural rock outcrop in undulating countryside. According to the OS Letters the castle of 'baile an Bharuin' was called after Purcell, baron of Loaghma (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 180). No visible remains at ground level. The castle at Baronstown was likely held by the Purcell family, who were prominent in the area during the medieval period. It is remembered for its association with the Barony of Loaghma and reflects the historical presence of Gaelic lordships in the region.
