What is recorded here

Cilgerran Castle was built by the de Braose family in the late 12th or early 13th century and later held by the Crown after their exile. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval Welsh Marcher castle and for its strategic role in the Anglo-Welsh conflicts.
