Cashel

In pasture, on a gently sloping upland terrace on the S-facing slope of a ridge in the Bricklieve Mountains. The cashel is overlooked by the ridge summit to NW but there are excellent views across Lough Arrow to E. A roughly circular area (27.5m E-W) enclosed by a ruinous stony wall (Wth 9m; int. H 0.75m; ext. H 0.9m) entirely covered in moss, sod and blackthorn bushes. From SW-W, where the wall straddles rising ground, it has a pronounced inward slump (Wth c. 4m; int. H 0.95m; ext. H 0.3m). From SSE-SSW the outer edge of the wall is incorporated into an E-W field boundary wall, now ruined. The interior slopes gently down to SE and is crossed at the N edge by an E-W field boundary wall. There is a hut site (SL040-16302-) in the centre of the interior. A cashel (SL040-164---) lies c. 10m to S and an enclosure (SL040-16303-) c. 20m to N.
