Carragh Cross

According to the OSL (2002, 45 (137)), ' … there is a stone in which was set a cross, none of which now remains. I [P. O'Keeffe] met several who remembered to have seen this cross'. It was described by Fitzgerald (1899-1902, 195-6) as, ' … a rough granite base of a cross, known locally as "the Wart Stone"; it is almost invisible as it is sunk deep in the ground by the roadside … ', while Crawford (1907, 237) called it 'a socket stone'. The exact location of this monument is unknown.There was a second cross base (KD018-012----) c. 350m to the SSE and a church (KD018-011001-) and graveyard (KD018-011002-) lie c. 200m to the ESE.
