What is recorded here

Carn was a cairn on a gentle slope in County Donegal, marked on every map but now erased from the land. It stood where grass still moves and shadows stretch, perhaps built to aim a memory toward the west or simply to say that people had been there. Maps can preserve a point long after the stones depart, carrying the shape of a place into lives that never touched it.

A cairn marked on all three editions of the OS 6-inch map is now gone. It stood at the top of a gentle W facing slope in grazing land.
