Caitlín Brugha was born Catherine Mary Kingston on 9 December 1879 at Birr, Co. Offaly. She organised the Gaelic League there before moving to Dublin, where she married Cathal Brugha and continued republican work. After his death in 1922 she raised their children, entered the Dáil for Waterford, and ran Kingston’s Ltd until her own death in 1959.
